Major General Edward Maitland Makgill Crichton OBE (1916–2009) was a senior British Army officer.〔(Person Page 34887 )〕 ==Biography== Born in Hereford on 23 November 1916, Edward Maitland Makgill Crichton was educated at Bedford School and at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He gained his first commission in the British Army in 1937 when he became a Second Lieutenant in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. During the Second World War he served in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, and Northwestern Europe. Between 1946 and 1947 he was an officer of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan. Between 1950 and 1957 he served in Libya and Egypt, and in the Suez Canal Zone during the Suez Crisis. He served in Aden in 1957. He was Commander of the 1st Liverpool Scottish, between 1958 and 1961, Commander of the 152nd Infantry Brigade, between 1962 and 1964, Deputy Director of Army Staff Duties at the Ministry of Defence, between 1965 and 1966, and General Officer Commanding, 51st (Highland) Division, between 1966 and 1968.〔(Who's Who )〕 Major General Edward Maitland Makgill Crichton died in Edinburgh on 22 December 2009.〔(Edward Maitland-Makgill-Crichton - The Scotsman )〕
